In August of 2023, I had family come to visit and we packed up 3 dogs, 3 kids and 3 adults to drive up near Ward, CO and hike up to Lake Isabelle. It was so windy when we first parked and started walking that I think several of us thought we might have to turn around and give up on the hike. Soon into the walk towards the trailhead we saw some moose grazing in a field. They were far enough away that it was cool to see but no one was in danger.
The hike has various terrain and makes a loop. It’s about 6.6 miles and has some lake views. There are a lot of flowers in the summer and plenty of shady areas along the route. The view at the top of Lake Isabelle makes the hike worth it. It’s so pretty and plenty of spots to walk around and check out different views.
You do need to pay attention to the trail because there are some spots that you could end up going the wrong direction and end up at a different parking lot.
Use AllTrails and search Lake Isabelle via Pawnee Pass to find this hike.
