Red Rock Canyon Open Space has a variety of trails and scenery to check out. I have a usual route I take that’s a 3 mile hike. There is a little bit of shade but it’s mostly clear and full of sun. This is a good place to go in the winter between some snowy times because the trails do dry out more than heavily shaded trails.

There is an off leash fenced-in area near one of the entrances that provides a little break for dogs to run around. Roxy knows the spot and walks right up to the gates upon arriving and leaving so she can run around off leash. Also, there is a lot of parking in a few areas there. I’ve never had a problem finding a parking spot, even on the weekends.
Roxy really likes to find shady spots, near the cool rocks to lay down. It must feel really good to her because she takes more breaks on this trail than any other trail we go on, as you can see in these photos.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space is off of 24 when you’re heading towards Manitou Springs. Rudy’s BBQ is nearby and you can stop by there for some food before or after your hike, along with lots of places in Manitou Springs. Rudy’s has a pet friendly patio and breakfast tacos/bowls before 10 AM.
